(2 May 2025) Muslim fathers refusing to shake hands with female teachers hardly attracts any public attention anymore. And that’s a good thing! Firstly, the vast majority of Muslims in Switzerland have no problem whatsoever with what we consider to be a simple greeting ritual. Secondly, debates about handshakes usually lead to fruitless discussions about symbols, which distract us from the serious issues at hand.

(25 April 2025) After Donald Trump’s peace offer to Russia caused turmoil in a warmongering Europe and raised hopes in the rest of the world, it is now stalling. The reason is simple: too many players, starting with the Ukrainians, the Europeans and the American warmongers, have an interest in the war to continue. Even if Trump and Putin were to reach an agreement and a temporary ceasefire were to be declared, they would not really end the hostilities. At least not for the time being.

(14 April 2025) In 2005, the French and Dutch rejected the Treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe in referendums. But in 2007, the French and Dutch parliamentary assemblies adopted the same text, barely amended, under the name of the Lisbon Treaty. For the first time since the end of World War II, the French and Dutch ruling classes showed their sovereign contempt for their peoples.

(14 April 2025) The appearance of the new US administration in Munich and Brussels, the scandal between US President Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House, and the spectacular offensive of the Russian army in the Kursk area have sent shockwaves through Europe and caused almost panicky reactions. The belated realisation that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine cannot be resolved militarily would actually force a rethink. Some trans Atlanticist are facing a difficult turnaround, and some have already made it clear that they are not prepared to do so.
